Masahiro Tanaka (3-1) didn’t pitch one of his best games , but he did pitch well enough to win, had his team given him a few runs. He kept his team in it till the Yankee bullpen imploded for the 2nd night in a row. The Yanks were swept via the 7-0 loss, and again showed no offense. New York has lost six of eight since winning six straight to reach the .500 mark at 22-22 on May 24. The pathetic offense did have opportunities, but failed each time. The Yankees scored a total of three runs in the series. This was an ugly game to watch, and an embarrassing finish to an embarrassing series.
The Mets fell to the White Sox yesterday, 2-1 in 13 innings. Their offense looked like the Yankee offense. The Mets got their only run of the day off the bat of back up catcher Rene Riveria, who singled home newly acquired James Loney in the bottom of the second inning. The Mets offense has been largely dormant of late as the injuries pile up for a team that has now lost 4of their last 5 games. On a day when they needed a quality bat in the line-up, manager Terry Collins was asked by Yoenis Cespedes for a day off and he gave it to him even though the Mets have off today.
Pittsburg Penguin captain Sydney Crosby gathered his teammates before a faceoff in the early moments of overtime in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup finals. He explained that he was going to win the draw and set up a shot to win the game. And, that’s exactly what happened. Rookie Conor Sheary gets a pass off the faceoff and fires home the game-winner. The Pens win 2-1 and take a 2-0 series lead. The Sharks and Pens have played two one-goal games fought to frantic, anxious endings. Ya gotta love the Stanly Cup playoffs!
