St. Louis surgeon Dr. Robert Thompson confirmed Wednesday that Mets right-hander Matt Harvey has symptoms of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. Now, Harvey is expected to decide within days between options which include a nerve-blocking injection and surgery. Harvey was pitching more like a No. 5 starter for most of this season, so losing him the rest of the way shouldn’t get the reaction that the news is getting. Just listen to New York sports radio. Hardly any conversation about the Knicks recent acquisitions or the floundering Yankees woes. Nope, it’s the Dark Knight saga. If I didn’t know better I would think WFAN is still the flagship station for the Mets.
In the last few days, all on the air hosts have focused on the Harvey drama. And the callers…almost 100% Harvey. A win over the Nats, 3 Mets heading to the All-Star Game, and Thor, DeGrom and Matz. doing their thing Yet it’s been all Matt, all the Time. The funny thing here is that no Met has been on the FAN since they started broadcasting Yankee games. (That’s because WOR (Iheart Radio) prohibits any Met being interviewed on the FAN.), yet it's Met talk, specifically Harvey.
News flash…the Mets still have a very good squad… 47 wins, 7-3 in their last 10 games, only 3 games out of first, hitting the shit out of the ball and sitting on top in the NL wild card race. So I say…Get a grip, Mat Harvey is not the reason why the Mets are currently the better team in New York. The other 24 in that dugout are.
