Even if the 2018-19 baseball free agent class isn’t going to be the slam-dunk we thought it would be, there are still players farther in the future that will change free agency—JD Martinez, Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Sale, and Nolan Arenado will likely all get their own respective mega-deals.
I don’t believe for one second that Gary Sanchez actually reinjured his groin last Monday. Putting him on the DL serves as the cleanest resolution to what could have been a massive crisis for the team, the clubhouse and the rookie manager.
Sometimes you sign a guy for all the right reasons and everything turns out as wrong as it has with Cespedes and the Mets. Why am I not surprised?
Get excited America, the Orioles are coming to Sunday Night Baseball (The O's are ONLY 41.5 games behind the Red Sox in the AL East). What happened to flex scheduling?? Could it just be that the powers at ESPN don’t think the scrappy underdog Yankees have had enough feature games in primetime yet this year. Sure, that has to be it.
Fox’s NASCAR viewership dropped 19 percent from last year. How many of you north of the Mason-Dion line actually watch NASCAR?
Because the NFL has become a “win now” league, I liked the Saquon Barkley pick, but I can’t help thinking is Davis Webb or Kyle Lauletta the Giant’s future at QB???
Ironic how just as the Yankees include outfielder Bill McKinney in a trade that Aaron Judge goes down with an injury. McKinney would have been the one most likely called up since Clint Frazier is on the disabled list with post-concussion migraines. Look for a trade.
What a disaster. Gary Sanchez’s lack of hustle cost the Yankees mightily. After this loss and a Red Sox win against the O’s last night, New York is now 6 games back for the AL East division lead. Since June 22nd, the Yanks are 13-13.
Luis Severino, for the third game in a row, wasn’t Severino. In the first inning Severino threw a slider that Sanchez failed to catch on an obvious cross-up. The ball trickled down towards the third base side in foul territory and Sanchez jogged towards it. Meanwhile, Jake Bauers the runner at 2nd easily took third and… started to sprint home. Bauers saw that the Yankee catcher wasn’t hustling to the ball and races home. Sanchez finally gets to the ball, but his throw was off line. Bauers scores. Not a care in the world.
Sanchez who has gone 1 for his last 19, comes up in the ninth. The Yankees have climbed back in the game that the Rays have led all night. It’s 7-6, the Yankees had top of the order come to the plate. The first two hitters – Gardner and Judge – did what the top of the order is supposed to do and got on base by an infield single and walk, respectively. Up comes Didi Gregorius who shockingly lays down a sacrifice bunt to put both runners in scoring position. Interesting, but it worked. The Rays intentionally walk the red hot Gincarlo Stanton, to load the bases.
Aaron Hicks grounded into to a force out at home. Up comes Mr Hustle. On a 1-1 pitch, Sanchez squared a hard grounder up to middle that 1) SS Willy Adames fielded 2) he tossed to 2B Daniel Robertson for a force out attempt 3) but Hicks’s hustle slide kept the game alive… for that moment 4) Robertson immediately threw to first to get Sanchez out and end the game. Sanchez is not the fastest guy, but good grief, he didn’t even pretend to hustle down the line to keep the Yanks alive. He basically jogged and it’s game over! I thought I might have even seen a yawn. Hey Gary, are we keeping you awake??
Sorry Snachez fans but, me thinks Gary is a bit over rated. While he has a gun for an arm and releases the ball quickly, his overall catching skills are terrible. I’m much more comfortable (when runners are aboard) to have Austin Romine behind the plate. I think the Yankees pitchers would agree. As for his ability to hit home runs, well how often has that happened lately? He’s been a flop at the plate hitting .188 with 14 homers and 42 RBI in 66 games, often striking out in a big spot, and we all know about his lack of hustle.
Monday’s mishaps weren’t just about Sanchez’s bad hands or legs, though. They spoke to a clear and present lack of effort that we all saw. Sanchez has earned a reputation as a player who frequently dogs it, it’s time to bench him.
Sometimes life throws you a curve. Life threw me and my family two of them. Living is about falling down and getting back up again. I’ve gotten back up and I'm back in!
So much has happened since I last blogged. Legalized sports gambling, NBA and NHL Playoffs, much of the baseball season. The Triple Crown, nauseating LeBron James stories, more LeBron James stories, World Cup soccer, Wimbledon, The NFL’s stupid anthem policy, and the continuing failure of the New York Met"s. So some quips, quotes and opinions…
Brutal. Just brutal. For the second time in as many days, the Yankees let a very winnable game slip away against the worst team in baseball. Tuesday final score was 6-5. You CAN’T lose to the Orioles. 3 games out!
I keep wondering about how the people in charge of the PGA Tour like the idea of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson playing that $10 million winner-take-all match.
I think J.A. Happ’s audition last weekend didn’t impress the Yankee front office.
Who gets traded, Thor or deGrom? I’m thinking Thor.
I want to feel badly for Russia, the guys losing the way they did on another last-kick ending. Sorry, I don’t.
And the Red Sox just keep on winning. Eight in a row, 13 of their last 15.
The Mets seemingly find new lows on an almost daily basis. Another dismal loss…7-3 to the Phillies. And who is this Drew Gagnon ?
WHAT IS THIS?
It's a somewhat tongue in cheek OPINIONATED sports blog that promises to cover baseball, football, hockey, basketball, and any other INTERESTING, stupid, and absurd STORY related to sports.
