Yesterday marked the final training camp (Ben McAdoo’s first as Giants head coach) practice of 2016 for the Giants. For fans, camp is basically already over as all future workouts are closed to the public. Little will change for players, other than the fact that they get to go home at night rather than back to a local hotel. With camp closing up There are several questions to be answered. The one most asked is about 29 year old Victor Cruz.
Cruz did not play last Friday vs. Miami and did not practice yesterday because of a groin strain. When Cruz will return to the field has become an ongoing topic of interest to anyone following the Giants. Because injuries have kept him off the field for almost two years, Giants players and coaches, the team’s fans and, especially, Cruz want to see him catching passes from Eli Manning again. Last week, it appeared Cruz would play against the Dolphins until the groin injury forced him to the sideline. With Cruz seemingly unlikely to play on Saturday in Buffalo – it appears he's running out of time to prove he's all the way back in time for the Giants' opener in Dallas on Sept. 11. And while the Giants don't have any intention at the moment of giving up on him, there are several young receivers - including rookie Sterling Shepard and second-year pro Geremy Davis (currently out with a hamstring injury) - who are earning a long look and could end up grabbing some of the playing time many thought would go to Cruz.
So the real question is, will we ever see a healthy Victor Cruz in 2016? His latest injury, a “sore groin" isn't a major injury, but everything seems major when it comes to Cruz. If you’re a Giant fan I wouldn’t count on Victor lining up in the slot every Sunday. That thought brings another question…Could the Giants cut Victor Cruz?
