Word has it that the Yankees will do something to recognize A-Rod and his career in pinstripes before Friday’s game. Alex’s last as a Yankee. While that’s a nice gesture, one wonders why they saw no value letting him finish the season in pursuit of home run No. 700. That nice round numbers might have sold some tickets and some merchandise. It's clear the Yankees valued improving the offense and giving young players at-bats ahead of capitalizing on A-Rod's pursuit of a milestone. It’s the Yankee way, always in pursuit of winning.
In the days leading up to the Women’s Olympic 100-meter Breaststroke , the American Lilly King criticized her Russian opponent, reigning world champion Yulia Efimova, for her “drug cheating,” a reference to Efimova’s 16-month doping suspension which ended in early 2015. During qualifying the two rivals exchanged finger-wagging taunts, which led to a tense final. In the end, King had the last word, breaking an Olympic record in the process. Efimova took the silver. You go girl!
Ain’t no doubt in my mind that the Cubs (69-41) will make it to the World Series. They currently have an 11 game lead in their division and have gone 9-1 in their last 10. Most of the kudos go to pitchers Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester. Arrieta, aside from his previous struggles this season, holds a 2.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 13-5 record, along with 143 strike outs. Lester, 12-4, 2.93 ERA, has done a nice job as the number 2 guy. Lets not forget their 556 runs scored. I could go on and on, but I won’t. make you think I'm a Cubs fan (I'm not) , but this team right now is the best in baseball. The’ll be in the series, you can bet on that. Sorry Met fans.
