It wasn’t a great weekend for the Yanks, but at least they didn’t get swept. A 3-1 win yesterday over the Bo Sox could delay the decision to begin the fire sale. Masahiro Tanaka went six innings and allowed just 1 run, striking out 7 and walking just 1 along the way. Tanaka kept a potent Red Sox lineup off base most of the night by limiting them to only 3 hits. The Yankees on the other hand were able to get to David Price, as they have in 2 previous meetings this season. They scored all of their 3 runs in the 4 inning after falling behind early on a Dustin Pedroia home run in the first inning. They out-hit the Red Sox 11-3 and only struck out two times. Brett Gardner, Ellsbury, Carlos Beltran, Gregorius, and Castro each had two hits a piece. Austine Romine rounded out the Yankees’ hit column with his single. Chase Headley was the only batter not to reach via a hit or a walk. Ok, so nice win. But with 4 games against the Orioles this week, they should continue to answer their phone as, several teams have stepped up their interest in the usual suspects we’ve been hearing about.
It’s no secret that BrianCashman has liked some of the offers he’s been getting, but Hal and Randy have refused to give him the go ahead. Along with Cashman wanting to move Chapman and Beltran, there are also trade rumors of the Yankees and Pirates talking about a trade which would involve starter Nathan Eovaldi. Of course now that he has pitched well in relief, they are hesitant. He has worked his way back into Joe Giradi’s good graces and will pitch against the Orioles tomorrow night. Can’t really blame Joe, there are little to no options for the starting rotation. The other names that have been mentioned are of course Andrew Miller and Bret Gardner.
Why prolong the inevitable? This weekend proved once again why they are a .500 team. Tease us with a win or two and then lose 3 or 4. Same old. 500 teams don’t qualify for the playoffs. (Well, maybe in Hockey). With all the success they have enjoyed in the last 20 years, I, as a Yankee fan wouldn’t mind cleaning house and rebuilding. Bring up the names we have been hearing about, pick up some prospects through trades and lets build the future around Didi, Betances and maybe even Refsnyder. Hal, Randy- What are you waiting for??
