Last October the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers met in the 2015 playoffs. Most will remember the epic bat-flip ,that is still talked about to this day. Everyone wondered if the Rangers would retaliate. They did- yesterday in the 8th inning. Hard-throwing Matt Bush nailed Bautista in the arm during his at bat. Bautista, said nothing and took 1st base, but his hard slide into second on an ensuing ground ball.led to a bench clearing brawl started by a Rougned Odor golden gloves type right hand haymaker that landed on the left jaw of Bautista. At that point Adrian Beltre ran over and grabbed Bautista in an attempt to play peacekeeper, but benches had already cleared at this point. I have to give Bautista credit, as he was staggered but remained on his feet. Coaches and players got involved in the scum, and several ejections were given out, including Odor and Bautista. Things almost got worse when in the next inning, Blue Jays reliever Jesse Chavez hit Prince Fielder with the next pitch. He was ejected automatically because of the warning issued after Bush hit Bautista. This was the final regular season game between these two teams, but if they meet in the playoffs, things could get very interesting.
All of this happens because of Bautista’s bat flip. IMO Jose Bautista is a whiny, egotistical selfish individual. And that was before the embarrassing bat flip. While I have no problem with any player celebrating a big hit in a big game, I have never been a fan of showing up the other team. There is a difference. Many will argue that he was just showing emotion, I say Bullshit. His ego is beyond repair. In typical Bautista fashion he was showing up the other team while drawing attention to himself, as many of these millennial players do these days. While the one time journeyman did become an allstar caliber player, his public demands for a big contract and his childish behavior shows a lack of respect for his opponents and the history of the game. What happened yesterday in Texas was unfortunate, but it’s on him. He started it and the Rangers finished it…for now. What goes around comes around.
